The game of football has played a huge role in my life. When I was younger, the only thing that I looked forward to doing when I got big was playing football. My first experience was in 4th grade when I joined the city league peewee team with all of my friends from school. I had so much fun just being a part of a team and actually playing because I was always one of the biggest guys on the field. When I was in 5th grade, I missed the weight limit for my age group by 5 lbs. I was offered the chance to play up with the older kids but didnt want to play without any of my friends. Instead, I played baseball that year and discovered how coordinated baseball players actually have to be. It was a fun experience but definately not something that I planned on doing for very long. 6th grade brought football back into my life and I was so grateful to get to play again but all that I could think about was playing next year for my school in 7th grade.
7th and 8th grade football was so much fun because I represented my school on the field for the first time and played with only my actual classmates and not random guys that came to play on the city league team. The most memorable moment from football pre-high school was winning the biggest rivalry game in the city in eighth grade. We won by an extra point just 7-6.
High school football was by far the overall best experience of my life. At my high school, our football team, varsity and junior varsity, practiced seperate from the freshman team. Our freshman team had a whole different coaching staff and schedule for the season and as a freshman, we went 8-0 not losing a single game. At the end of our freshman season, the varsity team was in the playoffs, and I was one of 8 freshmen asked to move up and play with varsity for the rest of the season. It was a huge honor to be allowed to play with the huge varsity squad and there was no better way to finish off my freshman football experience than to be on the sideline even while we lost to a huge cross town rival in the freezing rain in the semifinals.
Sophomore and junior year flew by and theres not much that I can remember simply because I have a very bad memory sometimes and have to be reminded of even very important events in my own life.
Senior year. Where do I start? Alright well senior year football was the best experience of my entire life. If i could, I would literally do it over and over again for the rest of my life. As strange as it may sound, I really just had that much fun. So our season was pretty good going 10-2 our first year moving up to 5A and placing as runner up district champs. Personally, I achieved 1st team all district, 1st team all acadiana, permanent team captain, the Eraste Thomas Autin Fighting Hear Award, "the single highest honor that an individual STM football player can earn." It was the best time of my life.
